Subject: Indicator 11 Timely Initial Evaluations Integration into WISEdata
Hello,
This message is for all personnel who work with reporting special education data to WISEdata. DPI is phasing out the use of the stand-alone Indicator 11: Timely Initial Evaluations application in the Special Education Portal. Instead, DPI will snapshot Indicator 11 from data submitted by LEAs into WISEdata. It is our hope that this will save time and effort in your district by eliminating an “extra” data collection.
The DPI is required to annually report to the U.S. Department of Education the percent of children who were evaluated within 60 days of receiving parental consent for initial evaluation to determine if the student is eligible for special education services. In the past, only LEAs “in cycle” were required to submit Indicator 11 data in any given year. Beginning with 2023-24 data, all LEAs will submit Indicator 11 data through WISEdata every year.
All students who are evaluated for special education must have a WISEid, but an enrollment record is not necessarily submitted to WISEdata. If a student is below compulsory school age and will not be receiving services, then a WISEid must be obtained and a SEORA record submitted. Students aged 3 and over who are receiving services will have a WISEdata enrollment and special ed sSEPA record submitted. Beginning immediately, all data element fields must contain valid data or will be subject to errors (not warnings) in WISEdata Portal. For more documentation, see the Timely Special Ed Evaluation (Indicator 11) data elements page.
All student information system vendors and special education data vendors are ready to submit this data to WISEdata. If you have not already done so, please consult your vendor customer service for procedures on how to enable their product to begin reporting Indicator 11 data.
This data will be captured in a snapshot for the first time on December 10, 2024.
